Inside-Out, the second annual exhibition of outdoor design curated by Kin & Company, NYC. Highlighting the 40+ new works from emerging and established independent designers, the 2020 exhibition was originally conceived to be an interactive design show focusing on social engagement which instead was presented virtually; “In the absence of of their human counterparts, the virtual works, ranging from the functional to conceptual, take on an ephemeral perspective. The pandemic has isolated us from each other, asking us to reconsider the meaning of connection and community, and forcing us to all re-envision the role of design today, tomorrow and for months to come”
Exquisite Cube, 9 cubes (18x18x18) with fabric hinges on recessed castors, was created as an interactive seating element that can easily be moved into a myriad of configurations. This allows the participants to modify their seating into any form, space or group they need. With custom graphics painted on every face, each new configuration of seating allows for a new experiences of interlocking line work, shape and color. These changing graphics and vantage points create new relationships, movement and connectivity throughout the piece, reflecting that of its participants.
In May 2021, the Inside-Out show was brought to life and shown at the intimate gallery and garden at Saint Marks Place, Brooklyn for the NYCxDESIGN days.
